Thoughts for the morning - Opportunities of a Flexible Future
  • reliable technical infrastructure to support learning and teaching activities
  • Baseline technology capability for staff and students
  • fit for purpose and authentic learning experiences
  • wider use of 6th sense technology for learning will be very enabling
  • regular technology updates what's new and what's hot
  • crossing boundaries beyond the physical walls of the classrooms -e.g. collaborative work with other institutions, industry
  • laptops prescribed for coursework enables families to have access to computers in their homes
  • sharing best practice with other institutions e.g using Karen http://www.karen.net.nz/home/

Thoughts for the afternoon - Challenges of a Flexible Future
  • use lecture-ettes to keep the attention of students
  • balance class interaction with technology interaction
  • only use technology if it can support and enhance the learning process
  • 'learning enabled by technology' is a very appropriate way of moving forward
  • challenge of meeting industry/workplace requirements and needs and at the same time using learning technologies when there is a mismatch between industry expectations and student learning needs, expectations and capabilities.
  • assessment and peer assessment using technologies, assumptions we make about student capability. If you have an assessment where eg a student assesses another student, we don't always give them the skills to make the right judgement, important that we do so.
